Mitchell Nickerson

Mitchell Nickerson

Year Elected to Office and Number of Years Served:

Mitch Nickerson served his first term beginning in December of 2002 and he was re-elected for another term in December of 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022.

Education and Background:

Nickerson was born in Billings, Mo. He lived in Colorado Springs, Colo., until 1990, and worked at Lockwood Corporation in Gering, Neb., from 1990 to 1992. He then moved to Grand Island in 1992 to work for Ore-Ida Foods, which was later purchased by McCain Foods in 1997. He received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration-Technical Services from Bellevue University and his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Nebraska-Kearney. He resigned from McCain Foods in 2012 to pursue a career field in Real Estate.

Place of Employment:

Nickerson is currently a realtor with BHHS Da-Ly Realty.  Prior to that, he held various management positions over 25 years at McCain Foods, Lockwood Corporation, and Ampex Corporation.

Community Activities and Organizations Currently Involved in:

Nickerson’s community involvement includes: past board member and board chair of United Way; member of Adult Basic Education Advisory Committee and GED/ESL Instructor; Board of Health member; member of the Government Efficiency Committee; Regional Planning Commission and Humane Society liaison for the City Council; and committee member for Law Enforcement/Emergency Management technology and the Animal Advisory Board. He has also been involved with Grand Island's Little Theatre, Grand Island City Singers, and the Interfaith Choir.

Additional Involvement and Special Areas of Interest:

Nickerson wants to move Grand Island forward as a destination, continue to diversify our economy, and delights in the different cultures in our city. He is dedicated to public safety, controlled spending, senior adult needs, youth, government integrity, and community involvement.

Reason for Running for Public Office:

Nickerson ran for City Council was to serve the residents of his Ward and the City of Grand Island.

Family Members:

Nickerson is married to Susan. He has two sons, Craig and Chad Nickerson, a stepson, Ryan Bittel and stepdaughter, Carlie Bittel.

Mike Paulick

Mike Paulick

Year Elected to Office and Number of Years Served:

Mike Paulick was elected as a member of the Grand Island City Council in December of 2012.

Education and Background:

Paulick was born and educated in Grand Island.  He went to District #30 grade school, graduated from Northwest High School.  He attended Kansas State University.

Place of Employment:

Paulick was employed by the City of Grand Island for 30 years in the Fleet Services Division.  Throughout his career at the City, he served in the positions of Fleet Supervisor, Mechanic, and Welder/Fabricator.

Community Activities and Organizations Currently Involved in:

Paulick is past president of the Grand Island Soccer Club, served as competitive coach for 12 years in the Nebraska State Soccer League, was an assistant coach for Grand Island Senior High Soccer for 10 years and is a licensed national soccer coach.  Furthermore, he was named past Administrator of the Year by the Nebraska State Soccer League.  In addition, he holds many ASE automotive and heavy truck certifications.

Additional Involvement and Special Areas of Interest:

Paulick would like to see more involvement by the City in the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant Industrial Park, transportation issues such as Broadwell Crossing and street maintenance, and more public safety east of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad tracks including a fire station.

Reason for Running for Public Office:

Paulick has always had the intention of running for office once he was done with his career at the City of Grand Island.

Family Members:

Paulick and his wife, Barbara, have two children, Mike and Nancy, and three grandchildren, Alexis, Zane, and Verity.
