Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Public Works Department is warning of a potential scam regarding the Sidewalk Cost Share Program.
The department has been notified of an individual going door-to-door claiming they are working with the city on the program, which is not true. While the program is active and accepting applications, there are no city employees going door-to-door to solicit applications or work for the program.
Applications are available online (https://www.grand-island.com/home/showpublisheddocument/26551/638491224618070000), but only the property owner can fill out the application, sign it and turn it in at City Hall. A third party is not allowed to do any of the above actions.
The Sidewalk Cost Share Program is designed to help property owners cover the cost of making non-ADA compliant areas of their public sidewalk ADA compliant. Once an application is approved, the work to get the project done must be hired or completed by the property owner. During the project, staff from the Public Works Department will inspect the work and make sure it’s all done to code.
For more information, please contact the Public Works Department by calling (308) 385-5455.
